The Role of Chiropractic in a Wellness Routine

Episode Notes:

In this episode of the Cityview Chiropractic podcast, Dr. Steve Sanders tackles one of the most common questions he hears from patients: how does chiropractic care fit into a well-rounded wellness routine?

Rather than viewing chiropractic as a last resort when pain strikes, Dr. Sanders makes the case for incorporating regular adjustments as a proactive approach to long-term health.

If you’ve ever wondered whether chiropractic is right for you even when you’re feeling fine, this episode is a great place to start.

Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Steve Sanders, and you’re listening to the Cityview Chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in Fort Worth. Today I want to talk about something I get asked about all the time, and that is how chiropractic care fits into an overall wellness routine. Not just as something you do when your back goes out, but as a regular part of taking care of yourself. So let’s dig into that.

You know what I hear a lot? People say they only come see me when something hurts. And I completely understand that. Pain is a great motivator. But here’s the thing, by the time you’re in real pain, your body has usually been dealing with a problem for a while. Pain is often the last signal, not the first one. So waiting until it gets bad before you do something about it, that’s a little bit like only changing the oil in your car after the engine starts making a noise. You don’t want to wait that long.

Now, chiropractic care at its core is about making sure your spine and your nervous system are functioning the way they’re supposed to. Your nervous system controls just about everything in your body. It runs through your spine, and when there’s restriction or misalignment in the spine, it can affect how well those signals travel. Over time, that kind of interference can contribute to tension, discomfort, and just a general feeling of being off. Regular adjustments help keep things moving and communicating properly, and that matters whether you’re in pain or not.

Here’s what’s interesting. A lot of our patients who come in consistently, not just when something flares up, they tell us they sleep better, they feel less tense, they have more energy. Now, I’m not going to tell you chiropractic is a cure-all for everything. That’s not what I’m saying. But when your body is moving well and your nervous system isn’t working against itself, everything else tends to work a little better too.

So let me talk about how you can actually build this into your routine. First, think about movement. One of the best things you can do for your spine is just move regularly. Sitting for long stretches is really hard on the discs in your lower back. Getting up, walking around, doing some simple stretching, that goes a long way. Second, think about how you sleep. Sleeping on your stomach puts a lot of strain on your neck. Side sleeping with a pillow that keeps your head level, or back sleeping with something under your knees, those positions tend to be much easier on the spine. And third, hydration. Your spinal discs are largely made of water. Staying well hydrated helps them stay healthy and absorb shock the way they’re designed to.

Now, when it comes to how often you should come in for an adjustment, that really depends on your situation. Some people come in once a month just for maintenance. Others come more frequently, especially if they’re dealing with something specific. The best thing to do is have a conversation with your chiropractor about what makes sense for your body and your lifestyle. There is no one size fits all answer, and I would be suspicious of anyone who told you otherwise.

If you’ve never had a chiropractic adjustment, or if it’s been a long time since you’ve had one, I really do encourage you to come in and just get evaluated. Even if nothing hurts. We can look at how your spine is moving, identify any areas of restriction, and put together a plan that makes sense for where you are right now. It’s a pretty simple conversation, and it could make a real difference in how you feel day to day.

I want you to feel your best, not just manage pain when it shows up. That’s the heart of what we do at Cityview Chiropractic. We want to be part of your long term wellness plan, right alongside your exercise routine, your diet, your sleep, all of it working together.
